With reference to your letter of the 19th December, 1945, under Reference No. 53611/7/45 appointing me to the office of Chairman of the University of Hong Kong Medical Degrees Emergency Committee, I have the honour to report that in so far as students of the University of Hong Kong, possessing the requisite qualification of the completion of twe years in the University of Hong Kong, have already completed such further courses and taken such examinations as would at this date bring them within the purview of the Order of His Majesty in Council, the Committee has completed its functions.

Lieut. Col. Gordon King, Dean of the Medical Faculty, informs me that there are further students of the Medical Faculty possessing the requisite two-year qualification who may complate the full course and take their examinations this summer.

In view of the possibility that, although one anticipates the early return of the Chancellor of the University, the re may not be in the Colony a sufficiency of members of the Senate to form a quorum, the Committee has adjourned sine die.

It would, on my interpretation of the Order in Council, be within the competency of the Committee to continue to exercise the power of determination and of proposing persons for admission to degrees, while leaving it to the Chancellor to confer the degrees.
